Tested by Wunderlich: The MOTOREX Fuel Stabilizer Plus compensates for the weaknesses of modern ethanol-containing fuels – ideal for winterising your bike
Function and Product Features
- MOTOREX Fuel Stabilizer Plus enhances the properties of all ethanol-blended 2-stroke and 4-stroke fuels (e.g., E5 and E10), even during extended periods of inactivity – for example, in the tank of seasonally used motorcycles
- Ethanol is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the surrounding air and introduces it into the fuel. The moisture binds to the ethanol, reducing ignition capability and potentially causing performance issues
- The Fuel Stabilizer Plus addresses the two main weaknesses of ethanol-containing fuels:
- It optimises combustion and improves fuel efficiency by preserving ignition capability
- The additive reduces the separation of petrol and water in the tank, maintaining the ignition capability of the petrol or petrol mixture
- Depending on the dosage, MOTOREX Fuel Stabilizer Plus can either preventatively stabilise petrol or regenerate fuel that has been in the tank for an extended period – for example, after winter storage
- Reduces corrosion in the fuel system
- Removes deposits in the engine
- Suitable for both four-stroke and two-stroke engines
Note
- The fuel specifications provided by the vehicle manufacturer must be strictly adhered to
Technical Data and Recommendations
- Recommended Dosage
- For acute problems: 10 ml per 10 litres (regenerative)
- As a preventive measure: 10 ml per 20 litres (preventative)

MOTOREX Fuel Stabilizer Plus enhances the properties of all ethanol-blended fuels (e.g., E5 and E10) during long periods of inactivity – for instance, in seasonally used motorcycles, boats, etc. It can be used both preventatively and regeneratively
With the introduction of ethanol-containing biofuels, fuel shelf life has decreased. It is estimated that fuel lasts about three months in the tank. Modern fuels (E5 and E10) are hygroscopic, meaning they gradually absorb moisture (from the surrounding air), leading to an increased water content in the tank. This can cause the petrol to separate from the water. The water, due to its higher specific weight, settles at the bottom of the tank, with the petrol 'floating' on top.
This phenomenon does not occur when the tank is regularly refilled with fresh petrol, meaning the motorcycle is regularly used and moved. It happens when motorcycles are left stationary for an extended period, such as during winter storage, when moisture absorption occurs almost unnoticed over time. The effect is exacerbated if the tank is not filled to capacity when stored, as additional condensate can form in the tank depending on the surrounding conditions, further contributing to water contamination in the petrol
What are the consequences?
Depending on the amount of water accumulated in the tank, the motorcycle may not start because the fuel is drawn from the bottom of the tank, where the water is located. The engine will definitely not start under these conditions until the water is drained.
The ignition capability (octane number) decreases over time because low-boiling substances continuously evaporate.
What can be done? The Solution!
MOTOREX Fuel Stabilizer Plus petrol should be added preventatively for stabilisation in autumn or, at the latest, with the last tank fill of the season. It prevents the separation of petrol and water and preserves ignition capability.
It is essential to completely fill the tank.
Additionally, it is recommended to opt for high-octane petrol (100/102 octane) with the last fill-up of the season, as its ignition capability is higher and thus lasts longer. However, it is worth noting that even these premium fuels now contain 5% ethanol.
