The development of this engine protection bar concept brings maximum protection to the forefront. The geometry of the compact protection bar primarily reliably protects the exposed water pump together with the hoses. But it also protects the clutch housing as well as the clutch’s slave cylinder. The engine protection bar nestles in closely against the aggregate and its compact structure also offers additional stability and stiffness. The bar for the left side of the engine is solidly bolted to the frame at two select screw points. The torques and forces that arise during a crash or fall are thereby distributed across two points. This reduces peak loads caused by external forces.

The motor protection bar reduces the risk of damage in case of falling over or a crash. A failure of the water pump and its connections in particular without fail means that the trip can be over.

The assembly is easy.

Notes about installation: If you want to install the engine protection bar together with the fairing protection bar, please use the engine protection bar for assembly with the fairing protection bar #70201-002.

We recommend preventive protection of the sensitive fairing, because the danger of damaging it is already present when manoeuvring in a garage or on public parking spaces. Our fairing bracket reliably protects the fairing stem and the area to the side of the water cooler, thus reducing the risk of expensive damage. In the event of a fall or rollover, the forces acting are optimally distributed via the protective bar structure to the load-bearing mounting points, so that force and moment peaks are reduced. Visually, the fairing guard integrates perfectly into the flyline of the DesertX and emphasises its striking appearance. The fairing guard is made of 25 millimetre precision steel tubing. It consists of two tube segments that are formed on CNC tube bending machines and then cleanly welded. Mounting is easy to accomplish.

In combination with our left engine guard #70201-002, the headlight and radiator guard as well as other Adventure protection components, the fairing guard forms a well thought-out all-round concept for increasing the passive safety of your bike.

The Ducati Testastretta 11° engine of the DesertX is with regard to the design a typical Ducati V2, which is also called L-engine. This is due to the fact that - unlike usual in transversely mounted V-engines - the front cylinder is almost horizontal, while the rear cylinder is almost vertically upwards. This design has thermal advantages, because it avoids the waste heat from the front cylinder putting an additional load on the rear one. The disadvantage is that the cylinder head with the valve cover of the front cylinder, under which the technically complex desmodromic valve control system is located, protrudes unprotected between the engine guard and the radiator. This also applies to the spark plug and ignition coil.

That's why protecting the cylinder head and valve cover is particularly important.

To protect the area from road debris, spray as well as kicked up gravel or other foreign objects, we have designed this cylinder and valve cover protection cover to fit precisely. The solid 4-point mounting, in conjunction with the dimensioning of the aluminum sheet and the horizontal bending, ensures high component rigidity and protection despite low weight, which also reduces the risk of substantial damage to the front cylinder in the event of mechanical impact.

With regard to design, our protective cover ensures symmetry and a perfect appearance: it picks up and continues the shape of the asymmetrical, left-hand intake manifold in the direction of travel. The cover clears up the area bounded by the radiator at the top and the engine guard at the bottom, so that in addition to the protective effect, the design underscores the adventure look of the DesertX. Last but not least, the trapezoidal openings in the cover also contribute to this.

To ensure that everything looks like a single piece, the aluminum cover is precisely cut out by laser. Both surrounding edges are then carefully rounded. The final finish is created by powder coating in RAL 9005 - deep black with a finely structured texture. Thus, the cover integrates perfectly.

Facts

Function

• Protects the cylinder head with the valve cover, under which the technically complex desmodromic valve control system is located, the spark plug and the ignition coil of the front cylinder, which protrudes unprotected between the engine guard and the radiator
• Therefore, the protection of the cylinder head and the valve cover is of particular importance
• The precisely integrated design protects the area from road dirt, spray as well as whirled up gravel or other foreign bodies
• The solid 4-point mounting ensures with the dimensioning of the aluminum sheet and the bending despite low weight for a high component rigidity, which also reduces the risk of substantial damage to the front cylinder under mechanical impact

Tough ’n’ Rough like the DesertX – the functional integral design of the Wunderlich EXTREME engine protection

Our stylishly designed engine protection stands out from the original silver-coloured version thanks to its optimised protective coverage and the fact that we offer it in black.
The functional design and structural integration of our engine protection safeguard the engine casing, sump and header pipes. It fits so closely around the unit that not only is the frontal surface area optimised, but ground and lean angle clearance remain virtually unchanged. The shape of the protection reduces the risk of unpleasant levering or snagging off-road, whether caused by branches, gravel or rocks. Openings ensure that water collected during river crossings can drain off freely.

The angled impact plates deflect stones or foreign objects thrown up by the front wheel in such a way that the risk of damage to the header pipes and engine is significantly reduced. Another advantage of this engine protection is that it deflects splash water thrown up in surges downwards and, particularly when the engine is hot, significantly reduces thermal stress on the engine casing, header pipes and seals.
The complex component shape and geometry are the result of optimising material thickness and weight while simultaneously achieving high structural rigidity and mechanical stability. The result is a durable, weight- and form-optimised engine protection that fits so closely around the unit that the design principle of “form follows function” becomes evident, perfectly underlining the Edge design in authentic Adventure style.

The premium engine protection is securely bolted to precisely fitting mounting points already present on the motorcycle. External forces and moments are distributed across the mounts to reduce peak loads and stresses. Vibrations are effectively absorbed. Typical of Wunderlich, careful attention has been paid to ensuring good accessibility for maintenance work. The aluminium engine protection is corrosion-resistant and finished in black. With Wunderlich brand logo.

The radiator is optimally positioned in the airstream generated during travel for optimum airflow to cool the engine. The exposed installation position also means that the delicate fins of the radiation network are also unprotected against stone chips, foreign bodies and insects, however. Insects clog up the cooler and reduce the cooling capacity, such as fins bent by „stone chips“. In the worst case, this can lead to leaks. With a damaged cooler, it is no longer possible to continue riding and dirt reduces the cooling capacity.

Our radiator protection is designed to provide an optimal air flow and optimal cooling capacity. The front silhouette of the cooler is covered in a way that reliably avoids foreign bodies and insects directly striking the vulnerable radiator network. It reliably protects the cooler without impacting the air flow.

Our radiator protection is also a visual highlight: The functional design is integrated into the appearance and visibly enhances it.

Proven in racing and off-road sports: Wunderlich DOUBLESHOCK axle protectors

The axle protectors ensure that, in the event of a tip-over or fall, the swingarm, wheel axle, and chain tensioning system are effectively protected from damage.

The protectors create distance between these components and the ground during point or sliding contact, thereby reducing or preventing costly damage to the motorcycle. In addition to our choice of material, we have structurally integrated two key specific features – damping and progressively increasing friction resistance – which we have tested under racing conditions.

Damping: The first key feature is the damping effect, which can fully or partially absorb impact energy in the event of sudden force.

Friction resistance: The second key feature is friction resistance, which increases from the outside in due to the geometry of the component and the expanding effective sliding surface. This means that under light contact the axle protector offers low resistance, but in the case of prolonged sliding on the road, it significantly shortens both the duration and distance of the slide. In other words, in the event of a fall, the time and distance the motorcycle slides are both reduced.

For optimal protection of your machine, we recommend combining our axle protectors with our vehicle-specific crash bar systems, for which we also offer additional model-specific protector pads.

The effective protective performance of Wunderlich DOUBLESHOCK Axle Protectors reduces the risk of costly damage – proven in both on- and off-road racing

Wunderlich DOUBLESHOCK Axle Protectors absorb impact during falls or crashes and positively influence the sliding phase

The effective protective performance of the axle protectors reduces the risk of damage to the fork, axle, and brake system in the event of a motorcycle fall or crash.
The protectors distance these components from direct or grinding contact with the ground or road, thereby reducing or avoiding costly motorcycle damage. In addition to material selection, we have constructively integrated two essential, specific properties and tested them in racing: damping and friction resistance that progressively increases during the sliding phase. Damping: The first positive feature is damping, which can partially or entirely absorb impact energy during sudden impacts. The second positive feature is friction resistance. This ensures that our axle protector provides minimal friction resistance during light contact but shortens the sliding phase in time and distance during prolonged, grinding road contact. In a fall with an axle protector, the sliding time and distance are reduced.
For optimal protection of your motorcycle, we recommend combining our axle protectors with our vehicle-specific protective bar systems, for which we also offer model-specific additional protection pads.

Higher, wider and perfectly integrated - The Wunderlich hand guard extension ERGO

Cold, clammy or wet hands are unpleasant, just like stone chips, road dirt of any kind, or insects striking at high speeds. With our integrated hand protectors widening, we significantly increase the protection area of the original protectors: in height, in width, and we also lead it around the hand to the handlebar end. More protection is not possible, but so much protection should already be there. With these measures, we significantly improve the protective efficiency. We have provided the upper edge with an outwardly projecting collar for water drainage, which directs spray water outwards and lets it drain off laterally.
With cold, clammy, and wet hands and gloves, the controls cannot be operated safely. With soaked gloves, the convection of the driving wind provides even more heat dissipation. Cramps can occur more easily, where relaxed driving is no longer to be thought of. But only those who drive relaxed because they feel comfortable can drive safely. Therefore, our hand protectors extensions, in addition to protection against wind, weather, and mechanical influences, provide more passive safety!

More Ergonomics. More Agility. On- and Off-road. The handlebar tilt can be individually adjusted with the Wunderlich Handlebar Riser ERGO 25 mm for the Ducati DesertX model series

The handlebar riser, specially designed by our developers, moderately raises the handlebar by 25 mm. The ergonomic benefits are substantial, providing relaxation to the entire back muscles and arms while relieving the spine, pelvis, and tailbone. This significantly enhances both ergonomics and agility. Relaxed riding also contributes to increased active safety on-road and off-road, thanks to the improved traffic overview provided by the more upright seating position.

An open knee angle provides noticeably more comfort when riding. At the same time, this reduces the mechanical strain on the knee joints and constriction of the blood vessels at the back of the knees.

With our footrests, the feet rest 20 mm lower, while the knee angle is opened up and enlarged, which leads to a thoroughly relaxed and comfortable sitting position. This makes it possible to reduce or even completely eliminate the painful and tortuous effects often associated with a tight knee angle.

With our sophisticated design, we achieve noticeable, ergonomically effective lowering without considerably extending the base of the footrest outwards. This actually adds to your comfort. At the same time, the lean angle is retained to a high degree. The good accessibility of the gear and break levers, as well as their safe operation, makes riding a real pleasure.

Produced from high-strength aluminium, the footrests are designed to handle even the heaviest loads.

The facts

Our Vario footrest system is the ultimate solution when it comes to adjustable footrests. With an adjustment range of 100mm diameter, no wishes remain unfulfilled. No matter whether you have a large or small foot, whether you want to increase the lean angle or simply relieve the knee angle comfortably. The eight-fold adjustment possibility by a full 360° ensures enormous flexibility. This comfort gain is available for both rider and passenger. Delivery is always with German type approval. All parts are made of high-strength aluminium and anodised in silver or black.

For complete assembly, the Vario joint, the Vario adapter and the desired Vario footrest are required for each side of the bike.

The basis of the system is the silver or black Vario joint, which is suitable for the respective bike model and is mounted on the footrest bracket instead of the footrest.

A Vario adapter is mounted to it, its length is either 23mm (Item-No.: 70330-000), 30mm (Item-No.: 70330-030) or (Item-No.: 70330-050) 50mm. It can be attached in eight different directions.

The footrest (Item-No.: 70331-000) is now attached to the adapter; it can optionally be fitted with a footrest rubber (Item-No.: 70332-002).

We think the standard foot gear-shifter is too petite, too short and too thin in a diameter. You look for it again and again, but sometimes you hit it imprecisely and sadly your boot toe slipping is a given.

Our aluminium, cylindrical gear-shift extension, which is a whole 15 mm longer than the original, is very easily pushed over the standard lever and is firmly clamped in place. This change not only makes switching gears noticeably easier, but more comfortable too. This means added operating reliability, especially in situations where it’s key.

The three ring-shaped, integrated rubber segments provide the best grip when shifting gears and simultaneously ease the stress on your motorcycle boots or shoes.

A different kind of heated handle control

The special feature of this system is the temperature dependent control. The special feature of this system is the temperature-dependent control. With standard heating grips, you have a step-by-step circuit, which is always a compromise and rarely fits.

The CLS Heat measures the temperature independently and changes the heat output with every °C difference. Since everyone is sensitive to heat differently, you can adjust the control range to suit your personal feeling of warmth. In this way, you can adjust the system perfectly to your personal needs.

The system also has automatic preheating. This means that the handles are preheated as needed, depending on the temperature, to quickly bring them up to operating temperature.

The control heats even before you have cold fingers, with a heating power that is hardly noticeable at the beginning. This ensures that fingers don't get clammy in the first place.

Advantages at a glance

• automatic temperature control
• very pleasant temperature development, not too much and not too little
• Adjustable to personal heat sensation
• automatic preheating at low temperatures
• quick and easy connection of other accessories
• 5 years warranty

To introduce the Ducati DesertX, we have designed the matching AKTIVKOMFORT rider and passenger seats in X-design for you: Wunderlich seats that perfectly combine the unique characteristics of our AKTIVKOMFORT seats and the colour layout of the DesertX.

We manufacture our rider seats with a characteristic, ergonomic 3D contour that lets the rider become one with their motorcycle. The shape and angle of the carefully crafted seat core support the ergonomically beneficial, natural posture of the back. Integrated in the motorcycle, riding is a relaxing affair and thus also active. And there's no doubt that relaxed sitting adds a serious plus to passive safety. This AKTIVKOMFORT seat has the latest ThermoPro technology where the temperature of the seat in direct sun at the peak of summer is up to 25°C lower compared to standard untreated cover materials. We also have a passenger seat in the range to go with this.

The same applies to all AKTIVKOMFORT seats:
