The development of this engine protection bar concept brings maximum protection to the forefront. The geometry of the compact protection bar primarily reliably protects the exposed water pump together with the hoses. But it also protects the clutch housing as well as the clutch’s slave cylinder. The engine protection bar nestles in closely against the aggregate and its compact structure also offers additional stability and stiffness. The bar for the left side of the engine is solidly bolted to the frame at two select screw points. The torques and forces that arise during a crash or fall are thereby distributed across two points. This reduces peak loads caused by external forces.

The motor protection bar reduces the risk of damage in case of falling over or a crash. A failure of the water pump and its connections in particular without fail means that the trip can be over.

The Ducati Testastretta 11° engine of the DesertX is with regard to the design a typical Ducati V2, which is also called L-engine. This is due to the fact that - unlike usual in transversely mounted V-engines - the front cylinder is almost horizontal, while the rear cylinder is almost vertically upwards. This design has thermal advantages, because it avoids the waste heat from the front cylinder putting an additional load on the rear one. The disadvantage is that the cylinder head with the valve cover of the front cylinder, under which the technically complex desmodromic valve control system is located, protrudes unprotected between the engine guard and the radiator. This also applies to the spark plug and ignition coil.

That's why protecting the cylinder head and valve cover is particularly important.

To protect the area from road debris, spray as well as kicked up gravel or other foreign objects, we have designed this cylinder and valve cover protection cover to fit precisely. The solid 4-point mounting, in conjunction with the dimensioning of the aluminum sheet and the horizontal bending, ensures high component rigidity and protection despite low weight, which also reduces the risk of substantial damage to the front cylinder in the event of mechanical impact.

With regard to design, our protective cover ensures symmetry and a perfect appearance: it picks up and continues the shape of the asymmetrical, left-hand intake manifold in the direction of travel. The cover clears up the area bounded by the radiator at the top and the engine guard at the bottom, so that in addition to the protective effect, the design underscores the adventure look of the DesertX. Last but not least, the trapezoidal openings in the cover also contribute to this.

To ensure that everything looks like a single piece, the aluminum cover is precisely cut out by laser. Both surrounding edges are then carefully rounded. The final finish is created by powder coating in RAL 9005 - deep black with a finely structured texture. Thus, the cover integrates perfectly.

The DesertX comes as standard with a lateral chain guard produced from plastic. The aim here is to prevent branches or other foreign objects from unintentionally getting caught between the lower chain section and the sprocket when riding offroad. This reduces the risk of the rear wheel locking abruptly and offers protection from mechanical damage caused by a chain getting broken or jumping off.

So using a corresponding chain guard generally makes sense here. However, we believe that it should be overall more robust and also cover the underside of the chain. Our chain guard therefore performs another important function: If the lower part of the chain hits the ground - which is not unusual when riding over rocky terrain - our chain guard also protects the sprocket, which could otherwise get damaged when hitting a boulder or rock.

We have created a durable, highly robust version, which we produce from solid 4 mm thick aluminium and which also protects the chain from below. The curved edges also provide additional rigidity. The radiator is optimally positioned in the airstream generated during travel for optimum airflow to cool the engine. The exposed installation position also means that the delicate fins of the radiation network are also unprotected against stone chips, foreign bodies and insects, however. This protector protects the series standard silencer on your DesertX in the event of falling over or mishaps It shines with its harmonious design that incorporates and perfectly continues the look of the end cap and the corrugations on the muffler. Two polygonal openings round off the design integration.

We’ve designed the construction and material thickness of the silencer protector to have generous dimensions so that in the event of a fall, the end muffler is distanced from the ground, thus allowing for the best possible protection.

The protector is exceptionally easy to attach. It consists of heat-resistant silicone elastomer that is additionally stabilised with a stainless steel insert. This allows you to simply “slip on” the protector - like a sleeve - from the back over the end muffler cap and position it precisely.

In the event that the motorcycle falls or crashes, the axle protection pads ensure that the swing arm, the wheel axle and the chain tension device are effectively protected against damage.

The protection pads distance these components during bouncing or sliding contact with the floor or road and thus reduce or avoid costly damage to the motorcycle. In addition to the choice of material, we have also integrated two significant, specific properties into the construction and tested these in racing, these being the damping and abrasion resistance that significantly increases in the slide phase.

The damping: The first positive feature we should mention is the damping, which can partially or fully capture and absorb part of the impact energy where impacting forces occur.

Abrasion resistance: The second positive characteristic is the abrasion resistance, which owing the component geometry increases from the outside in due to the enlargement of the effective slide area. This means that our axle protection pad only offers a low level of frictional resistance on light contact, but shortens the time and area of the grinding phase, such as when grinding along the road surface for a longer period. This means that in a crash with the axle protection pad, the time in which the motorcycle slides and the slide path itself are both reduced.
